We all want to be naked. We don’t like wearing clothes. We all have the desire to feel free. Nudity is liberty. Our bodies thank us for disrobing and allowing air to touch them. Like a cat on a cold winter day, our bodies seek sunlight. We are attracted to that sliver of the sun coming through the window and warming the room. We want to feel it touch us, which is a fantastic sensation too!
But why don’t all humans go naked? I think it’s because worry and doubt pervade our thoughts. We’re worried that someone will criticize our bodies or our behaviour. We’re concerned that we’ll get labelled something. We’re afraid we’ll be “outed” to the community and suffer embarrassment. We’re worried about repercussions from our employers or our family and friends. We want to belong to a group of like-minded people and fear not being accepted if we are authentic. So we go with the flow. We wear clothes that are the same as everyone else is wearing. We talk about things we have no intention of changing. We stuff ourselves into the pigeonhole we think everybody else thinks we should be in. But when we shed our clothes, it feels fantastic! It feels right! When we are authentic and behave the way we know is right and good, it’s magic!
Discarding the skins of oppression, better known as clothes, brings a sense of liberation. Swimming naked, sunbathing naked, playing sports games naked, eating with friends naked, sleeping naked, working naked, gardening naked, playing music naked, creating nude art while being naked, dancing in the moonlight on a hot summer night gathering around a bonfire, just being naked is so pleasurable that our spirit rises, and our hearts are set free. The body sighs with relief and says thank you by providing a feeling of relaxation and awareness of the air touching the skin.
Public nudity isn’t about sex or exhibitionism. It’s about freedom. All of humanity has wanted freedom from the very first days of awareness. We want to be free to express ourselves the way we want to. We want to be free to do as we please within the rules of good behaviour without harming anyone or infringing on anyone’s rights. We want to look after Mother Earth and create balance with her. We want to be at peace. We want to help others. We want to work at something fulfilling and fun. We want to be stress-free and healthy. We want enough money to experience such a life. Nudism is a path to experience such a life.
To be free is to have the right to be naked if we wish to be, to work at something that allows us to express our talents and abilities freely without expectation of something in return while helping others feel free and receiving gratitude and fulfillment from unexpected sources. That is true freedom. Let’s come out of our perspective closets and educate the public. When we own being a nudist, we take the power of small people that would criticize or ridicule away. They’ll no longer be able to control us. We’ll be in control of our own world.
